The Panel

The final decision on project Applications will be made by a volunteer Panel of 5 community members. This Panel of residents from Colonsay and Oronsay considers the merit of applications for funding and determines the extent to which the proposed project will benefit the community.

The Panel is convened as a subcommittee of the CCC, and a new Panel sits once or twice a year, when there are applications to consider. A Community Councillor acts as a neutral chair of the Panel, and does not participate in the decision making of the Panel.

We’d love for the residents who make up the panel to come from all corners of Colonsay. The Fund should be representative of everyone, and all Community members are encouraged to take part. Volunteers to be on the Panel can contact William Young, the Fund Administrator, who will be able to give you more information on what the role entails.

Becoming a Panellist
A guide has been created to help Panellists make decisions about granting awards to applicants. Panellists are asked to read the guide and associated materials fully. The reading time is typically 2-5 minutes, and assessing projects to these guidelines will help panellists work together to reach their decisions. It is important for Panellists and Applicants to understand that no application will be ‘perfect’, fulfilling ALL the criteria. As long as Panellists are satisfied that there is sufficient community benefit, then they can and should approve the application. The specific Guide For Panellists can be downloaded here.

As an additional aid to the review, Panellists will have access to a Review Guidance document, which gives practical advice on reviewing applications, a checklist to help you work through your consideration of an application, and a summary of the key criteria you should consider.

Additional guidance for Panellists will soon be made available in the form of fictional project examples and how they might be assessed under the criteria of the Fund.
